Subscribers receive the failsafe conversation after the Cisco Unity setup is run to change the system language

Core Issue

If subscribers are set to a specified language and the Cisco Unity setup is run to remove the specified language (or the specified language is not loaded in System Administrator > Configuration > Phone Languages), subscribers receive the failsafe conversation.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, add the HKLM\Software\Active Voice\CDE\1.0\RetryDefaultLanguage = 1  <DWORD Value> registry setting.

Note: No reboot is required for this action.

This registry setting causes Cisco Unity to login to the subscriber mailbox in the default  phone language, instead of playing the fail-safe message. Although the desired language may  not be heard, at least the system is operable now.

If this workaround is used, Cisco Unity logs an AvPhraseServer error in the application event log. This error indicates that the language defined is not loaded. To correct this problem, perform this procedure:

  1. Navigate to the Subscribers > Conversation page in the System Administrator (SA).
  2. Verify that the subscriber language is set correctly.
  3. If the language is set correctly, make a change to another field on the page and Save.
  4. Reverse the change just made and Save again.

    Ideally, this action saves the correct subscriber language to the Doh, and the errors no longer post to the event log.
