Core Issue

When Cisco Unity ViewMail for Outlook (VMO) 4.0.5 is used with Cisco Unity 4.0.5, 4.0.4 or any 4.0.x version of Cisco Unity, the server is unable to accept new voicemail. This problem occurs when Cisco Unity runs low on disk space because VSF*.tmp files accumulate in the C:\Documents and Settings\UnityMessageStore\Local Settings\Temp directory.

VSF*.tmp files are locked and cannot be deleted unless Cisco Unity is stopped, which causes downtime. Rename these files to *.wav, because these files are actually voicemail recordings.

These are the scenarios in which the creation of VSF*.tmp files occurs:

  • In Cisco Unity VMO 4.0.5 with Unity 4.0.5, VSF*.tmp files are created in one of these two situations:

    • When Telephone Record and Playback (TRaP) is used to record a message

    • When TRaP is used to play back a message that is in a folder other than the Inbox

  • In Cisco Unity VMO 4.0.5 with Unity 4.0.4, VSF*.tmp files are created in one of these two situations:

    • When TRaP is used to play back a message

    • When TRaP is used to record a message

When TRaP is used in Cisco Unity VMO 4.0.5 to record or play back messages, VSF*.tmp files are created in the C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp folder.

The exact triggers for the creation of the VSF*.tmp files vary, depending on whether the version of Cisco Unity is 4.0.5 or earlier.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install Cisco Unity 4.0(4) Engineering Special (ES) 89.
