Core Issue

An error message appears after an operating system (OS) upgrade from 4.3a to 4.3aSR9 on the Cisco CallManager server. The error message reads:

Potential critical Error encountered running cpSATARAID2.exe /s /f.

It returns a value of 2.

Resolution

When the OS upgrade completes, the OS upgrade tries to install the Adaptec Embedded Serial ATA HostRAID Driver for Windows 2000/Server 2003 with cpSATARAID2.exe /s /f. This component provides support for the Adaptec Embedded Serial ATA HostRAID Adapter.

  • /s means install without user interaction

  • /f means allow a downgrade or reinstall if already up to date. It is used with /s.

The reason for the failure is due to a stop services failure. But, the reboot helps to force the service to stop and restart, which clears the services problem so that the installation can still complete. In other words, this is not a critical error, but is an informational message.
