CISCO-CVP-MIB.my on CVP 7.2/8.0 does not compile

This is a good one.

Customer is setting up their Network Management System to monitor the UCCE/CVP system. They ask for the MIBs. No worries I say:

On UCCE: look in D:\icm\snmp

On CVP: look in D:\Cisco\CVP\conf

They have no problem with the UCCE MIB, but loading the CVP MIB gives them a problem.

error-Could not parse the file CISCO-CVP-MIB. The error occurred at the line no: 221 ,column: 9.

The identifier should not start or end with number or special character.

Line 221 Column 8 : "This syntax is used to identify the type of Customer Voice

I tried it with my iReasoning MIB browser and it sent it into a spin - 100% CPU. Then I pulled the MIB from a 7.0(2) install and it has the same problem.

I then find this nice page on Cisco.com

http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&step=2&mibName=CISCO-CVP-MIB

I have all the prereqs loaded. I follow the link for the CVP MIB thinking I might get a better one. It asks for my CCO login, and then says "Page Not Found".

I wonder how these errors slip by the testers.

Geoff

Well, that's a very nice collection of MIBs.

I actually had a CVP MIB on my drive (don't know where I got it from) that did compile and the differences between the ones from the 7.0(2) and 8.0 that did not compile were extremely minor.

so it was strange to have one load, and the one on the distributions fail.

But more importantly, David, the ones I have all say

ciscoCvpMIB MODULE-IDENTITY

    LAST-UPDATED    "200710310000Z"

and the one on that FTP site says

ciscoCvpMIB MODULE-IDENTITY

    LAST-UPDATED    "201109220000Z"

There are significant differences between the later one and the one that I could load - as one might expect with a 4 year time difference. This difference is specified in the revision section:

    REVISION        "201109220000Z"

    DESCRIPTION

        "Added ccvpSipIntPostCallAnswered,

        ccvpSipIntWhisperAnswered,ccvpSipIntWhisperFailed,ccvpSipIntGree

        tingAnswered , ccvpSipIntGreetingFailed"

In the old one, one section was called Run Time Environment Information Group with prefix "ccvpEnvRt" and in the new one this section is called JVM Information Group with prefix "ccvpJvmRt". So all those are different.

The new one has the ccvpSipIntWhisperxx and ccvpSipIntGreetingxx as indicated above.

I'll try to load this MIB tomorrow. Thanks for the advice, and I'll update this thread.

CISCO-CVP-MIB.my on CVP 7.2/8.0 does not compile

I was looking through some old emails and came across an email dated March 2009 from iReasoning support that explained why the MIB on the distribution did not load.

Hi,

This MIB is mal-formed. The quote on line 258 must be removed:
                 ICM, if one is present."

I had forgotten I went through all this once before and corresponded with Steve Harter (Cisco) about this issue. Looks like it was never fixed for the MIB on the product tree.

I will be using the one from 201109220000Z so this is somewhat immaterial.

I don't know about that, David. Thanks to you for reminding me of the FTP site. Correct answer for you.

When I looked over the Networkers 2010 presentation on SNMP monitoring by Steven Harter, the author of the MIBs, I found that site mentioned. Should have there checked first.

Anyway, the good news is that both the UCCE and CVP MIBs from that site load. The UCCE only has some trivial cosmetic changes - some comments at the bottom have been removed. Still, the one on the ICM DVD should be the one on the FTP site.

Geoff
