Free ESXI (VMware) for UCS servers

Hi,

I'm ordering a TRC-UCS240 server (UCS C240 M3 SFF/dual-8-core/2.7GHz/96GB RAM/16x300GB 15) for installing UCCX-WFO application. For the same, I've ordered VMware-ESXI (VMware vSphere 5-Std)through CCW tool for UCS240 server.

I was informed lately that we need not order "VMware vSphere 5" for these servers, however we can make use of free ESXI available online at VMware.com website. (http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere-hypervisor/gettingstarted.html#sthash.SHNC4QOb.dpuf)

Did anyone had a chance to try out this 'free ESXI'. If yes, pls share the ordering process to make use of 'free ESXI' feature.

Thank you.

Regards,
Soman Nair.

Free ESXI (VMware) for UCS servers

Hello,

The free version (ESXi) is limited to 32gb of memory and will not operate in a server that has more than that installed. You will need to order VMware licenses or pull 2/3rds of the memory from the system in order to use ESXi.

Free ESXI (VMware) for UCS servers

Hi Tanner,

The limitation of 32GB RAM is removed in free version.

"Limitation of 32GB RAM limit per server/host has been removed from the free Hypervisor. - See more at: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere-hypervisor/gettingstarted.html

Looks to be new with 5.5, very good. You should be able to use the free version without issue. You may want to confirm with PDI that there will be no support issues.
