UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

I am installing a fresh copy on UCCX 7.0 on two 7845 servers. As per the uccx70ig, after installing UCCX, before reboot, you install SQL. I have an MS SQL 2K CD from 4.0(5a), I installed the SQL Reuse Utility (SQLUtilTool.exe, v2.0.3) in the appropriate directory. After the "disable CSA", etc messages, I quickly get a message that the SQL install failed, look at C:\WINNT\setup.log for messages.

There is nothing in there to indicate the problem.

Anyone had this issue before? Thanks.

in the appropriate directory

While I'd like to believe you on this, you are posting to a free support forum.  I think I speak for everyone else when I say, we'd rather know what directory your placed the utility in, rather than take it at face value that it was the appropriate one.

Help us, help you, by posting your complete steps to reproduce this error, along with any pertinent screen shots.

I look forward to your response, thanks.

Re: UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

Thanks, Anthony. The ZIP file, v2.0.3 was downloaded and expanded into a C:\SQL2K directory as per the instructions. The C:\WINNT\setup.log file that the failure message pointed me to shows the following:

[InstallShield Silent]
Version=v5.00.000
File=Log File
[Status]
Completed=2
[ResponseResult]

The C:\SQL2KUTIL.LOG file (for the last run) shows:

Re: UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

My appologies; I misread this.

I have had issues in the past with getting SQL to install at this stage. I typically complete the initial configuration step and then install SQL.  I can't speak first-hand to the SQL reuse utility though.

Re: UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

Thank you for the quick update and thorough output.

I don't have an answer yet, but I did do some comparing with a working log file.

This is what your c:\winnt\setup.log should look like when complete:

[InstallShield Silent]

Version=v5.00.000

File=Log File

[Application]

Name=Microsoft SQL Server

Version=8.00.000

Company=Microsoft

Lang=0009

[Status]

Completed=1

RebootRequired=0

[ResponseResult]

ResultCode=0

On this line of c:\sql2kutil.log

CSCO:Wed May 05 16:24:12 2010:csco_clss::Process::initEnv(): Set 'PATH' to C:\Program Files\HP\NCU;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\wfavvid\lib;C:\Program Files\Cisco\bin;C:\Program Files\Cisco\AlarmService;C:\Program Files\Cisco\Desktop\bin;C:\Program Files\wfavvid\;;

My log file shows an elapsed time of 4 minutes before the next line, and I do not have the c:\program files\hp\ncu dir in my path.  What is that?  And can you try to remove that manually, and re-run the installer?

Additionally, you can spot the line just before where the failure ocurrs:

CSCO:Wed May 05 16:24:17 2010:csco_clss::Service::Service() opening service mssearch

When looking at the attached diff.  I hope this helps to shed some light.

Re: UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

I opened a case with TAC. Basically, do not follow the instructions in the UCCX7 installation guide. The guide says to install SQL after you install UCCX - but before you reboot. (There is a Yes/No prompt for reboot after the base UCCX install.)

It appears the SQL Reuse Utility is looking for the instance of MSDE that is installed with UCCX. MSDE is not visible to the reuse utility unless you do a reboot. After I rebooted, I re-ran the SQL Reuse Utility with no problems.

Thanks to everyone who contributed comments/answers to this issue.
