A very simple question about "clear route" on fwsm

What should be the outcome of a "clear route" command on a fwsm that has EIGRP configured? Is this command equal to the "clear ip route" in IOS?

We have two fwsm (separate chassis) configured in an active/standyby configuration.  We somehow failed over to the standby after  a "clear route" on the active was issued.

Thanks

Re: A very simple question about "clear route" on fwsm

Hi Don,

The 'clear route' command will remove all dynamically learned routes (i.e. your EIGRP routes) from the FWSM. Here is the command reference:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm32/command/reference/c3.html#wp1912438

Hope that helps.

Re: A very simple question about "clear route" on fwsm

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. What I am trying to discern is if the fwsm command "clear route" is as benign as I thought it was.  Do the dynamically learned routes just get relearned? Does EIGRP reconverge?

For some reason, out fwsm failed over to the standby after this command was issued.

Looking at fwsm logs this morning to see if I can figurre out what happened.

Thanks again.

Re: A very simple question about "clear route" on fwsm

Hi Don,

Here is the documentation that shows the various reasons why the FWSM might failover:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm41/configuration/guide/fail_f.html#wp1131033

What does the 'show failover history' command show for the reason of the failover? Did the FWSM crash (check for a crash file in 'show crash' and check the uptime of the blade in 'show version')? Did the switch generate any logs about the blade reloading?
