After ASA 5505 upgrade, console access requires a user and pw?

I upgraded my 5505 from 8.2(5) to 8.4(7) and now when consoled in it requires a username and password? I had 2 priv 15 users setup, but neither works. I searched the web but I cannot find anything on this, so I humbly turn to the experts...

odd...did you need to enter a username/password before the upgrade?

I would suggest a password recovery:

Authentication on an ASA will not by default fall back to the local database. However if you already had "aaa authentication console LOCAL" setup, it should continue to allow it after your upgrade.

Can you access via ssh or ASDM and check that or are you totally locked out?

I am totally locked out. I did have auth con LOCAL setup... This is a lab ASA so I can do anything needed.

have you tried to leave the username and password blank?  just press enter through the two.

Marius,

I had tried blank but not the spaces, although that failed as well.

Also, you have to enter a username in order to get the password prompt.

Thanks!

I was headed down that path :)

No, before the upgrade a user and password were not needed. Blew my mind as well. There had to be something in the config prior to upgrading to cause this.

Thanks to both of you!!

No problem.

Thanks for the rating.

You could check the configuration once you get in to see if there is anything that stands out.

Hi,

Go with the password recovery and check, what caused the problem....

did you noticed any error messages when you reloaded the device with new OS... it would have shown some errors in commands which have not taken.....

Also have you tried removing all cables connected to it and do console?

Regards

Karthik
