ASA, SMTP, telnet test

access-list incoming extended permit tcp any host 7.17.20.9 eq smtp

static (inside, outside) tcp interface smtp 10.1.40.5 smtp netmask 255.255.255.255

Have the above lines in an ASA. Yet when I try to test if port 25 is open by doing "telnet 7.17.20.9 25" i get connection refused.

Now, for some reason I seem to remember this being normal behavior for an ASA or PIX. Something to do with the "fixup" idea from a PIX? I never quite understood that.

Could someone tell me if I should be able to telnet to port 25 on that IP address using an ASA? I know you should be able to with, say, a SonicWall.

Re: ASA, SMTP, telnet test

Are you using an exchange server?

If you are is Exchange SMTP, Connections button configured to allow connections from the ip you are using?
