ASA upgrade process

As i have searched that If we want to upgrade from 8.2.x to 9.0.3 downtime will be there.

But if we will upgrade from 8.2.5 to 8.2(5.13) or we will upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3 with zero downtime.

Can you please confirm it how much downtime will be there if i will upgrade from 8.2.x to 9.0.3?

Hi Mukesh, Make sure that you

Hi Mukesh,

Make sure that you have a failover pair in case if you want to make use of the zero downtime..... in case you go with downtime.... it depends on the individual how he handles it while doing the upgrades.... since there will be a huge changes on NAT/ACL when upgrade it to higher ASA versions...... Also it depends on the complexity of the present settings......

But if you prepare you configuration and have that tested in lab environment, then downtime will be very minimal in case of standalone asa scenario.... just the rebooting time and updating configuration window..... which will be intermittent outage of 5 to 10 mins on evry reboot....

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information Karthik.

In case if 2 ASA are connected with each other through the failover link.

Can we upgrade ASA code on one ASA?

If yes. Will there be any effect on the second ASA that is connected with it through the failover link?
