ASA-X option to Shape policy

Hi guys!

I'm deploying Cisco ASA in a new project and I need to configure Hierarchical priority queuing with traffic shapping, but Cisco released the note below and appear to not exist more this feature on ASA. I would like to know what Cisco recommend as a option?

Note Traffic shaping is only supported on the ASA 5505, 5510, 5520, 5540, and 5550. Multi-core models (such as the ASA 5500-X) do not support shaping.

Hello Rodrigo,

Well as you already check there is no way to have traffic shapping configured on a multi-core ASA.

So you should be looking to a different QoS to satisfy the network needs on the ASA side. In this case I only see policing as the other available option for traffic rate-limiting but I think we would agree the behavior of this 2 are way different.

Yeah, I know the difference and because of this I really interesting on use shapping and not policing. I don't see the reason to Cisco remove this feature. As a Cisco employee you know why? I don't believe that is a hardware limitation...

Hello Rodrigo,

It's actually. All of the multicore ASA's will never support this feature based on the way the ASA is designed so you will need to use another device to make this happen.

I don't know why Cisco do this kind of thing with its customers, but I got your point.

I case similiar I found was when I tried to configure a couple of days before the feature NAT Stateful on Cisco router and figured out that this feature was removed too...

Cisco would be more clean with Cisco and partners around the world.
