I am attempting to change the passwd on an ASA5505 running 7.2.2(22), and cannot. Entering the passwd ? command shows that I can use an alpha numeric password "up to" 16 bytes in length, but when I enter a password that is less that this, I get an error stating that the password must be "exactly" 16 bytes. See below. Any thoughts?
fw1-pao(config)# passwd ?
configure mode commands/options:
WORD A password of up to 16 alphanumeric characters
fw1-pao(config)# passwo
fw1-pao(config)# passw
fw1-pao(config)# passwd whyn0wrk encry
invalid telnet password 'whyn0wrk': must be exactly 16 bytes long
Usage: [no] password|passwd <password> encrypted
clear configure passwd
I have the following aaa commands in place:
aaa authentication ssh console TACACS+ LOCAL
aaa authentication serial console TACACS+ LOCAL
aaa authentication enable console TACACS+ LOCAL
Thoughts?
Thanks,
-Scott
