Cisco ASA 5515 X with two WAN interfaces. Setting up failover

Hi:

How do I setup the cisco ASA 5515 X so that it uses WAN interface B as a backup in case WAN interface A goes down?

What if I wanted to balance both interfaces in order to sum up bandwidth?

Thank you.

Hello Eurosigma,

How do I setup the cisco ASA 5515 X so that it uses WAN interface B as a backup in case WAN interface A goes down?

- You do this by using the IP SLA Monitoring feature that allows you to send probe ICMP packets (in the case of the ASA) to a target IP address so in the case you do not receive a certain amount of responses in a specified amount of time (Timeout) you will determine the link is not healthy and then fail over to a secondary WAN/ISP link.

What if I wanted to balance both interfaces in order to sum up bandwidth?

ASA does not support Load-Balancing so you will not be able to Load Balance traffic across different interfaces.

Also note that the ASA does not support PBR so you will not be able to send X traffic via link A and Y traffic via link B.

Thank you.

Hi Eurosigma,

You can look for the example configuration and do the dual isp set for your asa.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/pix-500-series-security-appliances/70559-pix-dual-isp.html

For load balancing as far i see we do not have any such option supported by ASA.
