I basically started out with a PIX515E in 2005 or 2006. I have had no courses on the actual device and had to learn to use it with just trying out things, reading the Configuration Guide and Command Reference. And as always, Google is your best friend when trying to find more information.
Ciscos site also provides information on how to configure your firewall.
Using the graphical user interface (GUI) ASDM will probably get you started easier than just starting with the command line interface.
