downgrade asa version and upload configuration

Hi all,

I would like to downgrade my asa 5510 from asa version8.21 to asa version 7.2.2

Can this be done correctly by doing the following?

1)upload asa722-k8.bin and asdm524.bin to my firewall flash in disk0

2) going to my asdm under configuration->device management->system image/configuration->boot image/configuration,

ensure that the first image in my boot order is asa7.2.2-k8.bin

3) under asdm image file path, ensure that i specify disk0:/asdm524.bin

4)click apply and reload my asdm

I would also like to confirm when i upload my asa configuration using the CLI as below, will it overwrite the existing config or merge with existing config? Pls advise. Thks in advance.

copy disk0:/firewall.cfg startup-config

Re: downgrade asa version and upload configuration

Don,

Are you trying to do this via ASDM?

If so try this

copy disk0:/firewall.cfg startup-config /noconfirm

Get connected via CLI and make sure you can do the following the same command.

If it gives the same error then, try to issue

fsck disk0:

-KS

Re: downgrade asa version and upload configuration

Don,

If you are just trying to change the code to 7.2.2 and then restore your saved config from when it was running 7.2.2, the procedure that you listed will work perfectly.

Get the unit to boot 7.2.2 and the matching asdm. Issue show ver and verify.

Then copy the config to start

copy disk0:/firewall.cfg startup-config

- DO not issue write mem.  Just reload the unit.

This will not merge the config it will just boot the unit with the firewall.cfg file.

Re: downgrade asa version and upload configuration

Hi Kusankar,

When i did copy disk0:/firewall.cfg startup-config

it gives me the following

Source filename [firewall.cfg]?
?Bad filename
%Error parsing filename (Bad file number)

My firewall.cfg is generated by a pixtoasa migration tool

Pls advise. Thks in advance.
