FWSM upgrade from 4.0(4) to 4.1(8)

Hi Guys,

I want to upgrade a pair of FWSM in active failover from 4.0(4) to 4.1(8)

i just want to double check the process. i have tftp access to the primary at the minute. i cannot access the same tftp server with the standby. do i need flip over to the standby to be able to tftp the image across?

failover active

hostname# changeto system

hostname# copy tftp://x.x.x.x/c6svc-fwm-k9.4-1-8.bin flash:image

hostname# copy tftp://x.x.x.x/asdm-622f.bin flash:asdm

hostname# reload

Once i have the images loaded i reload both at the same time?

i have been reading some previous helpful posts

You need to get the system and asdm image both onto each unit's flash. You may need to make the standby unit active to reach your tftp server.

Once you have that completed, first reload the standby unit. Verify it loads with new image. It will complain about software version mismatch with peer but that's expected. Make it active and verify proper operations. Then go to formerly active unit (which is now standby) and reload it. Finally, make it active and verify once more.

ya what Marvin has said is right, anyone has idea if FWSM is involved in CCIE syllabus of Security or datacenter, i am planning to go for datacenter training at http://networkerszone.com/
and was told that its not .....

Hi Naval, i was informed by our cisco rep that the FWSM is to be discontinued, so not sure if this affects the CCIE syllabus.
