i have 5 branches. if i want to encrypt the traffic between h.o to branches is that ok if i put one 515E at H.o side and 506 pix for the branches.so that i can configure site to site vpn over the p-t-p leased line. will this 515 E will meet the requirement will this guy handle point to multipont vpn for these 5 branches. pls correct me if i'm wrong.

i will rate all the posts. thanks on advance.

Hi Binoy,

A 515E can handle up to 135Mbps 3DES VPN traffic. If you do not plan to have more than that this is fine.

Check the Data Sheet: http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_data_sheet09186a0080091b15.html

The only problem i see right now is that PIX 506E will not support the new 7.x OS from Cisco, that adds some fancy features: http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_data_sheet0900aecd80225ae1.html

However, if you plan only IPSEC between them, you will have no problem with 515E 7.x in H.O. and 506E 6.x in branches.

One hot item is allowing the branches to talk to each other through the 515E, that is available in OS 7.x.

Check http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00804675ac.shtml

Please rate if this helped.

Daniel

Binoy,

My question to you would be - Why would you want to setup site to site VPN using your leased line? The whole point of setting up VPN is to reduce the cost of having to use leased lines! Certainly, you can encrypt traffic between your HO and remote branches through your leased lines.
