IP Address Conflict

Hi all,

I have a clustered ASA 5510 setup with ASA 8.0(4)28. We have an internal host (lets say 192.168.1.2) which translates to an external address (lets say 128.123.123.2)

Yesterday this was restarted and when it came back it reported an IP address conlict and assigned itself an auto config IP address ( a 169 address).

Trying to assign it its old address did not work with the machine reporting an IP address conflict. The only way we eventually resolved the issue was assigning it a different IP address. The gateway for the network (192.168.1.1) is the ASA.

Hope I am making sense. Any idea as to why this might have happened?

Thanks.

Check your DHCP table. It probably handed out the IP to a host. You can also track down the host now and see if it's hard coded or not.
