Hi all
I have looked around for the answer for a while now with no luck!!
I have two ASA5550 running v8.3.1 which i am installing to replace some real old legacy firewalls.
I want to be able to (if possible) create a Network Object which utilises a hostname as opposed to a IP adress and have the box dynamically work out the IP Address.
We have a number of services that could use this feature but here is one example.
BES server needs to talk to RIM on port 3101 at srp.uk.blackberry.net. If i query srp.uk.blackberry.net i will get an IP address returned but this can change. Now RIM documentation recommends not to use a static IP address in firewall config for this reason. Not so much of an issue for BES as even when the IP does change the old one will remain active. However this could be another site and it may be the case that they take down the old IP address thus making the rule entry invalid until changed.
I really hope someone can assist me with this.
Cheers all
Chris

Hello,
At present, it is not possible to use DNS names in the
objects/object-groups/access-lists. You do need to specify the IP addresses
in each of them.

Thanks for your advise.
Does anyone know if this will be in upcoming software releases?
Cheers
