Need confirmation regarding documentation (ASA5580)

Hi Community,

This customer has several 5580s running 8.1(2)

The device only recognizes 4GBs out of the 12GBs of memory in the box:

ASA# show ver | i RAM

Hardware:   ASA5580-40, 12288 MB RAM, CPU AMD Opteron 2600 MHz

------------------ show memory ------------------

Free memory:      1094081776 bytes (25%)

Used memory:      3200885519 bytes (75%)

-------------     ----------------

Total memory:     4294967295 bytes (100%)

An upgrade to 8.4(4.1) or above will fix this???

According to this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/release/notes/asarn82.html

Only 4 GB of memory is available in ASA 8.2(5) for the ASA 5580 and 5585-X platforms.

All available memory in multi-core platforms (ASA 5580 and 5585-X) in ASA 8.2(5) are also available in ASA 8.4(1). To take advantage of the enhanced capability, you should upgrade your devices to the ASA 8.4.4(1) release.

So, some ASAs are presenting memory problems and according to the information in Cisco, an upgrade to 8.4(4.1) or above will recognize 100% of its memory? Can someone please confirm this????

Thank you!

Federico.
