packet loss on pinging inside interface from host on the inside

I am pinging the inside interface of the pix 515-E, it pings but drops the occasional ping, and experiences packet loss, because of this, the secondary pix tries to kick in and causes further issues. There are no bandwith intensive applications in use on the network. What could be the problem

Maybe a speed / duplex mismatch issue... Have you checked logs on the switch?

duplex and speed settings are all correct on the switch
