Hi Guys,

Have a question on Pix Capture. Does the pix capture also capture the packets which are being dropped by the firewall? Normally we see the drop packets in the logs so wondering if i put capture on the firewall, will the pix capture capture the drop packets specified in the capture access-list.

Tks

Hello,

PIX 7.x and higher will also let you setup a capture for only dropped packets. This is done with the 'type asp-drop ' option. For example:

capture dropped type asp-drop all

This would give you a capture that includes all packets dropped by the firewall. Here is the command reference as well:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/command/reference/c1.html#wp2108895

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Yes, the captures will capture dropped packets as well. Captures are done first for ingress packets and last for egress packets.
