PIX Interface Admin Down, Line Protocol Up

Hi,

I'm currently seeing interface ethernet2 on my pix 515e as Admin Down, Line Protocol Up.

Could someone pls explain why a PIX does this?? Is it just because its detecting layer 2 connectivity??

Hi Eddie,

Yes, you are correct. The ethernet2 interface has L2 connectivity, but the interface is administratively shut down, so it is not passing any traffic. When you manually bring the interface up, you will see the status change to Up/Up.
