remotely configure a new ASA?

If I want to remotely configure an ASA, that is new out of the box, will putting a modem on the console port allow me to get into it if I dial into that modem, or can that not be done with it being unconfigured?

Re: remotely configure a new ASA?

The console port does not support modem connections as far as I am aware.

The easiest way I know is to have a PC or Laptop connected via the console cable to the ASA. Then RDP to the remote machine and configure the ASA from the local hyperterm or simular app.

Hi Andrew, I thought that too a while back that ASA does not support model via console but saw a post with a link, not that I have used it bit it seems based on this link is possible.

I would however rather do it via your recommended way..

Re: remotely configure a new ASA?

Hi Jorge,

Nice find - one for the toolkit!

However I would NEVER dream of attaching a modem to a firewall or any other device for remote access to a remote site or a data center either.

I have seen how easy it is to war dial, and brute force a modem.

Andrew.
