Can you upgrade both the ASA software and the ASDM software at the same time so that only one reload is needed?

Yes, from the CLI (assuming you're using TFTP here...if not, adjust your copy command)
Just do two "copy tftp: disk0:/" commands; one for the asa802-k8.bin file and the second for the asdm-602.bin file
Then, (again from the CLI), you can:
boot system disk0:/asa802-k8.bin
asdm image disk0:/asdm-602.bin
write mem
reload
And you're all done... that's all I did to upgrade my five firewalls this past week.

you don't need to reload when upgrading any asdm image file, only the OS.

I'd like to thank everone for their input. The repsonses were excellent. I was able to sucessfully upgrade last night with only one reload.
