Upgrading an ASA 5510

Hello,

I have been given 2 ASA 5510's to upgrade.  I have upgraded their memenory from 256mb to 1GB and wondered what firmware I shoudl put on them as I will need to pair them for failover.  I can see the firmware is currently 7.0(8) and the device manager (ASDM) is 5.0(8) so very old.

I am currently using 8.2.(2) on our ASA 5520's and I know the NAT get's a little different on the later version so it might be a goo idea if I'm starting fresh on a new project to use the latest fimware?

Also how can I clear the old config?

Thanks

Upgrading an ASA 5510

Hello Andy,

To clear the old configuration, on the global configuration mode, just "clear config all". That sould clear it. Now if you want to move fresh and without any config on the device, please and I mean PLEASE go to the latest version of code (8.4.3) as the other versions have some bugs when upgrading to one another.

Here is a good document for you to catch up with the New nat:

Also here is a good video you can use as well:

Those guys, Jay, Justin and Mike Robertson along with the whole crew they are really good at this stuff.

Hope it helps.
