2-arm vs 1-arm design in WAAS

We're deploying WCCP for redirecting the traffic to our WAE devices and I was wondering what would be the Litmus test for determining whether or not we would need to patch the second interface on the WAE. Is this what they mean by 1 arm vs. the 2 arm design? Can someone please clarify?
