My company purchased CISCO 2801 router that acts as Internet router sitting between firewall and Internet. There is little configuration since VPN, firewall, and most of the options are not used.
1. How do make a backup of the configuration from CLI and/or SDM? I think there just few lines of configuration data but I don't remember how to read it.
2. What resources would you recommend to learn IOS CLI and SDM? I'm pretty familiar with networking but CISCO is new to me.
Thank you.

A1. you can take configuration backup on a TFTP server. To do this, first set a TFTP server, then save the config using "write memory" or "copy run start" command (it'optional, but it's better to do). After that you can take backup using "copy run tftp" command.
A2. There are many documents available in cisco website itself, you can do online search there, alternatively you can sarch docs in google and you will get many.
hope it helps ... rate if it does ...

Hi
(1)The crude (and efficient) way of taking backup of config. is telnet/console the router.
"Enter Password :
Router>enable
Password:
Router#show run"
And copy the output to a notepad. You can scroll down using
(2)The recommended way is to use a TFTP server whose process has been mentioned in the following link.(but there are complexities involved)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1835/products_tech_note09186a008020260d.shtml
(3)Through SDM is following process
(4)As far as learning cisco products are concerned, the joy of configuration lies through CLI (not SDM) as this gives you far greater flexibility and access to the product. You need to start from www.cisco.com and go to support for that.
Hope I have answered your queries.
