2801 Forced to 10 MIPS?

I have to connect to a fiber system with a 2801 that only talks 10 MIPS, and doesn't play nice to negotiate with a 10/100 switch. I need to force the port to 10 MIPS so it can talk.

Can this be done? What do I need to do to accomplish this? I'm a non-network engineer forced to do network stuff for this project.

Mark-

It can be done. Here are the steps. Please note that you will lose connectivity for a second or two.

1. log in to router

2. go into privilege mode (type enable)

3. go into configuration mode (type config t)

4. go into the interface you want to change the settings (type interface fast 0/0)

5. hard set the speed (type speed 10)

6. hard set the duplex (type duplex full) or half depending on what the fiber system supports.

7. leave config mode (type end)

8. save the config (write mem)

If all goes well you should see the interface come up. You can check it by typing 'show ip interface brief' You should see up/up.

HTH and please rate.
