cant get IP address from CDP information

hi all,

Passing through a strange problem. In remote region in our network one switch is connected to the router as a main switch. All other switches in this region are connected to this switch through trunking on VLAN 1. Network is running fine. But I cant access the main switch as cant get the IP address from cdp information. Is it possible that this switch is without any IP address and still connected to 3 more switch and 1 router and working fine?

If not, how to resolve IP address?

Its very much possible to have a switch w/o ip address since we do configure the same only for the management purpose in case of normal L2 switches..

You need to connect on the console port and find out the config of the switch and if u need you can assign ip address to that..

If it's not in the cdp config but all the cdp information is there but that then the ip address has not been configured . You'll have to plug into the console port and configure one if you want to be able to remotely manage the switch . Also add your default gateway .

I am asuming this remote switch is not easily available to you.

Can you look at the "show cdp nei detail" output? If the address is not there, you probably do not have it configured with an IP address.
