I've been experiencing random slowdowns in internet speed since setting up a transparent proxy server on my LAN.At first I thought this was a problem with the proxy machine itself but now I'm starting to suspect the router may be the problem, with traffic in and out of the adsl card possibly jamming up. The internet speed tends to rollercoaster. The proxy machine is on the LAN and running centos 6 with squid.
The last time I had a severe slowdown I discovered it wasn't the proxy machine it was the router, because the internet on other computers that were not going through the proxy were down as well and the internet practically never goes down on this router.
Could the IOS be to blame? Should I be using a different IOS for this? And apart from acl's is there any special config one should use to cater for a transparent proxy machine on the LAN?
