Cisco Pix VPN access to novell 3.12

Hi,First, excuse my networking ignorance, i'm an old time Mainframe and Unix guy who is trying to expand my expertise in the network world.

i have a potential customer who is running a very old novell 3.12 server. they would like vpn access for upper manangement to work from home.

Originally i thought i could stick in a pix 500 and allow rdp to their current desktop which i would think would then allow all IPX traffic to be routed through the VPN.

However they are looking at potential new employees who will work remotely all the time, so no desktop to RDP to.

If anyone can tell me what my options here are i would really appreciate it.

The PIX will not be able to do VPN for Novell IPSec only supports the IP protocol. You will need to establish a GRE tunnel to route IPX. I was in the same type of situation, provide a VPN solution for Novell users. I eventually had to install a Microsoft VPN solution allowing a GRE connection through the PIX.

Thanks for the info. Can you give me more details about what microsoft solution you installed. I am assuming a windows 2000 (or 2003) standard server with VPN role ? and then configure the pix to allow pptp (port 27) and IP Protocol 47 for GRE ?

Here''s a Microsoft url to get you started.

You can search for more documents relating to Microsoft VPN and IPX. It was a few years ago so the specifics are a little fuzzy.

It is important to remember to allow IP protocol 47 (gre) through your PIX.
