Hello,
I've got an old 2511 that is meant to join my CCNA study home lab, but it suffers from an h/w issue.
- It can boot from its ROM 4.14(9.1), without reporting any faulty part
- It can read/erase/write the flash when booting from ROM
- but, when booting from flash, or if instructed to load ios via tftp, as soon as it prints to the "Image text-base:xxxx data-base:yyyy" message it hangs there and never completes the bootup.
I tried several combinations of additional DRAM/Flash modules, to verify that it does not depend from them.
Interestingly, I noticed that if I swap the ROM chips with a slightly newer version 5.2 the same problem happens also while booting from ROM.
Do you have any suggestion on what can be malfunctioning? My bets so far are the built-in RAM or some memory address decoding circuitry.
P.S. Consumeristic approaches like "Faulty? Dump it!" are not welcome. This is a learning engineering platform :)
