Hi

192.168.255.96 is the network address

the host address range is .97 to .126.

Hence give the ip from 192.168.255.97.

When using this mask .96 is the network address for the network 192.168.255.96 /27.

This is the range from 96 till 127 where 96 is the network adress and .127 is the b'cast address. Using .97 should be ok.

Hi there,

The others are right in that it is a network address that you are tyring to apply to the interface.

To help ease matters, have a look at this spreadsheet that I wrote to help work out IP addressing, network masks etc. IP addressing is one of those things that just takes some practice.

I've put 96 in the spreadsheet and highlighted your mask (224), you'll see that there is all 0's in the 'host' section - this means it's the network address.

Have a play with it and let me know what you think. Please feel free to pass this to as many people as you want.

Hope this helps,

LH
