Hi

The Catalyst 2960 is a layer 2 switch only and it does not support L3 routing.

If you need a L3 switch you may want to look at the 3560 switch instead.

Hi,

Depends on the required capacity and performance. Try 3750 for high performance.

Hi there!

I know that this question is out of date but just to inform that Catalyst 2960-S, we can change the SDM and achieve basic routing, I have tested and everything worked fine.

But I'm totally according with the colleagues that 2960 (without S) does only Layer2.

Thank you!

2960/G and 2960S share the same IOS.

If you upgrade to 12.2(55)SE2 and higher and change the SDM template, you'll be able to do very limited static routers.

However, if you have the new 2960-XR, it has limited dynamic routing features.

Q. What features does IP Lite bring to the 2960-XR switch models?

A. IP Lite introduced enterprise access Layer 3 features to the 2960-XR switch models. IP Lite is subset of IP Base features. Some of the IP Lite features are:

• Routing Information Protocol (RIP) v1 & v2

• Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) v2 & v3 stub

• Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) stub

• Equal-cost routing

• Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP)

• Protocol Independent Multicast PIM (Sparse Mode, Dense Mode, Sparse Dense Mode, Source Specific Multicast) stub

• Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) for IPv4

• Private VLAN

• IPv6 First Hop Security source guard

• Per-VLAN and per-port policers
