NM-16ESW as a hub

Cisco 2651XM router with

NM-16ESW 16 port switch

is there any way to configure the NM-16ESW switch to act as a plain hub? I've only had the 16port switch for a short while and I've managed to get it working by creating a VLAN and assigning an ip address to it (thanks to allans help), but I also wanted a method where I could just use it as a hub - to act as an extension of either port f0/0 or f0/1.

Thanks for any advice.

hi tony

i did not understand why you need to convert your switch to a hub. if you need to monitor some traffic in one port, you can use SPAN (switch port analyzer) feature

yes you're right, my question was borne out of the fact I didn't understand this switch properly but now I'm getting better at it I can see how to configure it.

Re: NM-16ESW as a hub

I assume you mean 'switch' as opposed to 'hub'? If that's the case then I think you could do this with bridging:

bridge 1 protocol ieee

!

interface FastEthernet0/0

bridge-group 1

!

interface FastEthernet 1/1 ! not sure how the ports on a NM-16ESW appear?

switchport access vlan 10

!

interface vlan 10

bridge-group 1

!

interface bvi 1

ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

!

I am not sure why you would want to do this though as you could simple not use the 'regular' fa0/0 interface and just use the ports on the NM-16ESW?

thanks for your response Andy, I didn't know about bridging but I will try the config you have given above. Cheers.
