Simple 3750G upgrade question

Good evening,

We just purchased 3 3750Gs with 24 ports and I plan of creating a switch stack. My question is...down the road...can you slowly take out one switch and replace it with a 48 port and will the stack reconfigure the new 48 port switch to get more ports or am I stuck with just buying 24 port 3750Gs?

Thank you

Re: Simple 3750G upgrade question

Hi Friend,

With Cisco StackWise technology, you can create a single, 32-Gbps switching unit with up to nine Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series switches irrespective of the 3750 hardware

type.

Have a look at this 3750 Q&A

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_qanda_item09186a00801b0971.shtml

Also have a look for some more details as how to manage stacks on 3750

Re: Simple 3750G upgrade question

Yes you can take out and it will automatically adjust itself. Just make sure that you assign a switch as a master manually by prioritizing it so the new switch you add does not take over in any way.

Keep in mind that which ever is the Master switch, it will overwrite the IOS on the plugged in switch.

as i remember, the switch we want to take out from the stack must be turned off. if not, then we get 2 different stacks
