Hi,
With this modes you define if port will send DTP messages and negotiate trunking or he will be just a normal access port..
For example:
1.Switch port mode Access turns off DTP messages on this port. Port will not send them or use them to negotiate trunking, even if he receieve them. Whith this trunking is totaly turned of on port.
2. Switchport mode Trunk will always nogotiate trunking, send DTP messages and try to form a trunk link.
3. Switchport mode Dynamic Desirabe says, I will send DTP messages and if other side response to me we will form a trunk link. If not, than nothing. I will send DTP´s however until someone respond or until i receive from someone DTP´s.
4.Switchport mode Dynamic Auto says, I will not send any DTP messages but if I receive DTP´s from someone we will make a trunk link. Until than I stay in Auto mode and do nothing.
DTP (Dynamic Trunking Protocol) is Cisco proprietary protocol used for trunking negotiation.
I hope it helps a bit. :)
