What is the difference between using the archive tar /xtract command and the archive download-sw command to upgrade IOS on 2940's, 2950's, and 3750's ?

Is one method better or more recommended over the other ?

Thanks,

Rich

download-sw is specifically for downloading software.   I always use download-sw when working with software is it has some extended checking to verify the image is compatible with your system and current configuration.  The tar command allows you to look inside of tar archives, create archives of any type of files, etc
