Hi Swami,

AP Group VLANs is used in a setup where a Universal WLAN (SSID) is required but clients

need to be differentiated (placed on different interfaces configured on WLC) by virtue of

physical APs the associate with.

Say there are two seperate buildings (Building 1 housing students and Building 2 housing

staff) each with its own set of APs talking to the same WLC but advertising just one WLAN

(SSID). The APs in Building 1 can be grouped to AP Group VLAN1 tied to dynamic interface

called Student Interface and APs in Building 2 can be grouped to AP Group VLAN2 tied to a

dynamic interface called Staff Interface. Now with this configured on the WLC all clients

associating to APs in Building 1 will be put on the Student Interface and clients

associating to APs in Building 2 will be put on Staff Interface even though all clients

associate to the same WLAN (SSID).
