1131 AP to 2106 WLC. IP address is assigned but will not join.

setup is: 1131 AP connected to 2106 WLC connected to windows xp machine for console access. for testing purposes is not connected to network/internet yet.   the WLC will be connected to the internet later.
DHCP scope is setup and gives out address. I can ping the WLC management AND the ap-manager IP from the AP console but cannot ping the AP from the WLC console.

I have read - Troubleshoot a Lightweight Access Point Not Joining a Wireless LAN Controller and most every other tech note.
I can use the DEBUG commands on the AP  but I see no output to screen or capture or show logging from the WLC console   ie.   debug lwapp packet enable     or    debug capwap packet enable    but there is no output that I can see/find.

Does anyone have any ideas? Happy to post some debug logs if I can get any.

Cisco IOS Software, C1130 Software (C1130-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(21a)JA1, RELEASE

Here's your culprit.   The IOS you are running is for an Autonomous access point.  You need to load/run the LWAP IOS.

... And you don't need to be a Nobel Prize winner to convert autonomous access point to LWAP access point.

1.  Download the correct IOS.  The LWAP IOS has the "rcv" prefix in it's filename.

2.  Copy the "rcv" image into your AP using the command "archive download-sw tftp:///.tar"

3.  Make sure the boot variable changes to boot to the "rcv" image.

4.  Reload your AP.

Check out CSCsj33229.  You aren't able to ping devices directly connected to a 2100 controller.

Sort of figured that but regardless the AP does not join the controller.

What am I missing that I get NO output from debug commands?

What firmware are you running?

Console into the AP and enter the command "lwapp ap controller ip address ".

You read my mind as I can't do those commands. (lwapp or capwap) Does this help tell you anything?

cwap1#lwapp ap controller ip address 198.162.1.1

Re: 1131 AP to 2106 WLC. IP address is assigned but will not joi

Thank-you I upgraded to  the version for lwapp and it is joining.

FYI - I connected via http to the AP and upgraded from there.  In case this helps anyone else.

Now I have gone thru the Web-Auth config for Local users on the WLC and I can connect to the SSID but IE status is:

Opening page https://1.1.1.1/login.html?redirect=10.10.100.90/.................................   BUT the page cannot be displayed

I have also read: Troubleshooting Web Authentication on a Wireless LAN Controller

What am I missing?

hi ,

Try to reboot the controller to take effect of web auth. configuration ?

I hope, you will get web-auth page when you try to access http with above mentioned ip .
