I just upgraded an 1142 AP to stand alone mode to use as an extender in my home. I have a Linksys router already connected to the router as an access point with no encryption enabled and it works perfect. Problem is I have no idea how to get to require a "word" to connect. I've looked up articles and can't seem to figure it out. I am using the web interface with the latest revision. The Linksys is in the basement connected to the modem. I'm trying the mount an AP on the 1st and 2nd floor. I just can't seem to broadcast an SSID along with basic password protection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure I understood your query correctly, but if you want to connect your 1142 to the local internet router & wanted to get DHCP from there & users able to connect with a password, you can try this.
Do the below configuration on your 1142 (once you do erase start-up & remove the existing config) & connect it to your internet router/modem free etherent port. is the SSID name appear to users & is the one they enter as password to connect this network.
Thank you for the reply, unfortunately I cannot access the CLE via console cable on this laptop. I can only make changes using the web interface now. Problem is I keep going back-and-forth from encryption manager to SSID manager. I can get the AP to broadcast a perfect signal using no authentication and assigning the static IP via the web interface. As soon as I try and use WPA type authentication I just end up going around in circles and can't find the proper settings.
