1142N radios won't turn on

Hello, Wifi Experts!

Received 20 1142N AP's

19 were registered and working with the Controller code version 7.3.101.

One was DOA so we had it RMA'd.

Replacement came, with same part number.

Plugged it in into the network.

Successfully registered to the controller.

BUT ITS RADIOS WON'T TURN ON!

802.11B/G was configured 'Enabled' but its status is 'Disabled'.

plugged it on a switch where one of the working AP's is connected.

switchport configs are identical for these two AP's.

and still the radios won't turn on.

Any birght ideas, experts!!!

Re: 1142N radios won't turn on

Make sure the ap operational status is enabled. The radios being enabled are a different setting.

Here is a screen shot. I would also recommend you have at least one ssid enabled.

1142N radios won't turn on

Thanks, Fella5!

Operational Status is 'Down'

Admin Status 'Enable'

SSID are configured already and working with other 19 AP's.

I'm able to access the wireless from other AP's.

This problem is only for the RMA'd AP.

Its radios won't come UP.

Console into the AP and reboot the AP.

Post the entire bootup process.

Re: 1142N radios won't turn on

Hmmmm ...

Can you post the output to the WLC command "sh sysinfo".

I have a strange feeling your AP has the wrong regulatory domain and this is why 802.11b radio is disabled.

Your AP model number is "AIR-LAP1142N-K-K9" and with the regulatory domain of South Korea and your name doesn't sound South Korean.

Do you have a WLC?

If you do, post the output to the WLC command "sh sysinfo".

Configured Country............................... SA  - Saudi Arabia

As I've suspected.

Your WLC is configured for Saudi Arabia (regulatory domain "-E") but your AP is for South Korea.

What country will this AP be installed?

SA

If both the AP & WLC is are to be installed in KSA, then contact the vendor who sold you the AP and politely ask them to change the AP with the one with the correct regulatory domain, "-E".

Re: 1142N radios won't turn on

Thanks, Leo!

Will escalate this issue.

But howcome, all the other 19 access points are working and this one doesn't?

Using the WLC, look at the regulatory domain of the APs.  For KSA, they should be "-E".  Maybe this one AP was delivered to you in error.

1142N radios won't turn on

AP's bg RD is -E and a RD is -K

WLC CC is set SA

at least the 2.4 should work for this AP, right?

they prolly sold this here since 5GHz will not work if WLC's CC is set to SA.

Re: 1142N radios won't turn on

You need to make sure the country code is also set on the WLC. Might require a reboot also. With multiple country codes, the WLC will only allow the common channels for all countries defined. Since you didn't add all the country codes for your access point, the controller is disabling the radios.

Hello, Fella5!

Thanks for your reply.

Is the following correct?

this is the current setting now.

after the wlc reboot, both radios are still down.

Re: 1142N radios won't turn on

Well I think you will have to be creative here unless you just tam that one also. I would and have in the past have to delete all the images in flash on the access point and the tftp a new recovery image to the AP and then also erase the nvram. After this process the ap should be like new in the box. This has fixed issues with me since I test a lot of beta code and APs tend to fail from upgrades.

On the AP you need to console and get into the ap. Issue a

debug capwap console cli
debug capwap client no-reload
erase /all nvram
dir

archive download-sw/overwrite/force-reload tftp:////

AP#archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://10.0.0.5/c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-23c.JA.tar

reboot without saving
