It look like your IP does not have an IP address. You can add an IP address from CLI or web base.

Can you ping the AP from the controller and ping the controller from AP? do show cdp neighbors detail to find the AP on the controller. Make sure both AP and controller on the same VLAN.

Re: 1242 is not joining controller

Looking at the log file, I think you have a bad image on the AP

%Error opening  (connection timed out)Loading  "flash:/c1240-rcvk9w8-mx/c1240-rcvk9w8-mx"...#################################################################################################

You might need to reimage it.

Re: 1242 is not joining controller

It sounds like you are still working out IP connectivity, but I also noticed your AP is not for US regulatory domain.

Can you confirm that your WLC is ready to accept an AP with country code -E?

Your AP model:  AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9

From the WLC CLI

>show country

If you are in US, you should only have -A available.  If this AP is intended to be used the US, then you will need to acquire an AP with the correct country code, as -E would not be supported in the US -A regulatory domain and should not be used.  Perhaps this is for another location, so you may need to add the applicable regulatory domain support.

This link provides the list of the respective country codes and compatbility/etc.

Re: 1242 is not joining controller

Hello Waseem,

So when you run show cdp neighbors detail , can you see that your AP has IP address?

When you do the ping from the AP console to any other resource, example default gateway what is the result ? Do you receive any message like protocol not enabled ( configured  or allowed ) on the CLI ?

What is the ip address of the controller management interface?

Can you provide the output of

show capwap client config

show capwap client rcb

after making sure that your AP has valid ip address.

Re: 1242 is not joining controller

So are you saying it works when you put a static address but not when you have the ap setup for dhcp?

1242 is not joining controller

Hi Usman,

As what Scott and David is asking you, when you MANUALLY configure the IP address on the WAP, it will join the controller?

If the answer is YES, then I'd say that I think you are mistaken.  Y'know why?

If the WAP has successfully joined the controller previously, then WHY is the WAP still booting up an "RCV" image?

Next, OK, granted that when you configure the IP address and the WAP rejoins the controller.  But the static IP address IS NOT saved so when you reboot the WAP, it doesn't have an IP address.
