LAP: 1242AG version 12.3(7)JX3

I've never seen an old IOS like that before.

I would strongly recommend you upgrade the RCV file.  Before you can do that you need to convert this AP to autonomous and convert to controller-based IOS.  The fastest way to convert the AP to autonomous is to use this process:

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

Cisco IOS Software, C1240 Software (C1240-K9W8-M), Version 12.3(7)JX3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Wow.  That is a very, very old Aironet IOS.  What firmware was the controller running?  3.X?

Re: 1412AG LAP not joining vWLC

What is the country code configured on the vWLC and what is the Regulatory Domain of your AP (post the COMPLETE output to the command "sh version").

Ok.  Country code and regulatory domain match.

Console into the AP and, in enable mode, enter this command "capwap ap controller ip address 192.168.2.22"

Re: 1412AG LAP not joining vWLC

Thanks for the suggestion.  Upgrade fixed the problem.

Just out of curiosity, why can't we just upgrade to a newer LAP version?  Why do we need to convert to autonomous first?

Thanks again!

1242AG LAP not joining vWLC

Just out of curiosity, why can't we just upgrade to a newer LAP version?  Why do we need to convert to autonomous first?

This is because the AP is running a very, very old full IOS.  I am suspecting it could be an Aerospace 2.X firmware.  I've never played with this old firmware so there are some commands to upgrade the IOS directly is even possible.

This is why I asked you to convert to autonomous first before converting to a higher CAPWAP version.

Upgrade fixed the problem.

May I ask if you can mark this thread as "Answered"?

Re: 1242AG LAP not joining vWLC

Just to add... If you search the forum or look at the vWLC, it will say that you need to first join the AP to a WLC that is running v7.3 code in order for it to join a vWLC. The workaround is to upload the latest RCV image for the access point.
