1252 will not power up on Moxa PoE Switch ?

Hi all

We are working on getting a 1252 AP to be used as a WGB in a warehouse scenario.

But we have run into a bit of trouble.

Not with the WGB config that works fine :-) but....

The AP will be connected to a Moxa Industrial switch with PoE (EDS-G205A-4POE)  http://www.moxa.com/product/EDS-G205A-4PoE_Series.htm

But they will simply not power on.

We have tried to connect 1242 AP, 2602 AP and even a 7945 Phone to the switch.

They all power on just fine.

The 1252 does nothing.

Any suggestions ?

/Thomas

Take off one of the radio modules.  If the AP powers up, then you need to upgrade the IOS of the 1250 so it can support 15.4 w PoE.

We already tried to disconnect one (and both) of the radio modules.

I have installed the newest IOS image on the 1252. (15.2.2 somthing).

But it will simply still not power-on.

Re: 1252 will not power up on Moxa PoE Switch ?

Hi ,

For a 1250 Series Access Point with two radios, 18.5W is the maximum power required at the access point (powered device). When deployed using PoE, the power drawn from the power sourcing equipment will be higher by some amount dependent on the length of the interconnecting cable. This additional power may be as high as 1.5W, bringing the total system power draw (access point + cabling) to 20W. A similar consideration applies for a 1250 Series Access Point with one radio.

So it's recommend to have :

1. Cisco Catalyst switch port capable of sourcing 20W or greater
2. Cisco AP1250 Power Injector (AIR-PWRINJ4)
3. Cisco AP1250 Local Power Supply (AIR-PWR-SPLY1)
4. 802.3af switch (AP1250 with single radio only)

Hope it helps

Thomas,

Post the first 7 characters of your 1252's serial number.

Sure here you go:

FCZ1528xxxx

Im wondering if the 1252 is "asking" for 56V on the ethernetport the instant it is connected, and then the Moxa switch goes into "overvolting" protection ?

Theres just no indicator on the Moxa switch that indicates this.

Thomas,

Your serial number is covered with warranty.

RMA the AP.  I think it's dead.

He he thank you for your reply.

But the trouple is that if i connect the 1252 to a 3560 or 2960 with PoE it powers on just fine.

Re: 1252 will not power up on Moxa PoE Switch ?

After some investigation we "think" that the problem is the "overload voltage feature" on the Moxa switch, combined with the 1252.

We "think" that the 1252 tries to draw too much power when it is connected (56V), and therefore the Moxa switch "shuts" the port.
