1602i AP cannot connect to CT2504 Controller

Hi all,

I have a CT2504 with

Software Version7.5.102.0
Field Recovery Image Version
System NameCisco_a5:d


I also have a 1602i AP with the software 15.2.4-JA1

The AP is trying to connect to the controller, but fails. I get the following log:

can you run some debugs from the WLC?

debug mac addr < ap mac address >

debug capwap events enable

debug capwap errors enable

and post the output?

1602i AP cannot connect to CT2504 Controller

I only have the second port connected to the switch. It is also the management port. I don't have a lot of info about the interfaces, so do not know if this is the best option. Run-config is as follows:

1602i AP cannot connect to CT2504 Controller

Don't create multiple ap-managers.... just let the management also be the ap-manager as its best practice and works the best.  Once you clear that up, the AP will join.  Put the AP in the same subnet as the WLC management and let the ap join and download its code, then after that process, you can move it to another vlan if you wish.

1602i AP cannot connect to CT2504 Controller

Since you are running v7.5.102.0, you can enable LAG and use all 4 ports if you wish.  You just need to create an etherchannel on the switch for the four ports.  The way you have it, each ap-manager has to be assigned to a dedicated port on the WLC...

1602i AP cannot connect to CT2504 Controller

I now removed the ap-managers. I only have the manager port (port 2) open and connected to the switch. Should I create the ap-managers again?

Btw, I get the same error as before, so I am guessing there may be a problem with another config.

Well on the management interface, you need to have ap-manager enabled. Don't create any ap manager interface. As long as the AP gets an IP address and is n the same subnet as the WLC, it should join. If this is a new setup, then depending on how much changes you made, it might be easier to factory reset and just go through the startup wizard. This way we know that the settings are defaulted.
