1841 router and HWIC-AP

okay got a question. I am trying to install and use a AP on a 1841 series router, it is HWIC capable, but the interface shows when you show int, but it does not show under show run, nor can you find it and access it through global config, well not that I have found unless it shows as a different interface. I have one serial slot already s0/0/0 so this interface is on slot one. Any help or idea's would be appreciated!

Hi Kenneth,

Have a look at this excellent post from Ben @ Cisco (he indicates that you must be running 12.4T at a minimum);

Thanks a ton Rob, I should have known, when in doubt firmware/IOS upgrade.

Installed IOS 12.4(12) software on the 1841 router. Still no radio interface shown on the router, did I install the wrong IOS? and if so what IOS should I look at trying next? Any idea's?? Thought that 12.4(12) would be better than 12.4T series of IOS's did I think wrong?

Hi Kenneth,

Not sure?? Here is the clip from Ben's excellent post (he knows more about this than I ever will :)

Yes, the HWIC-AP is supported with the 1841, but you must be running a 12.4T IOS image (in addition to the correct feature set). I'd suggest 12.4(11)T with Adv. Security or Adv. IP Services Feature Set. Make sure you meet the minimum memory requirements as well.

Your next best option would be 12.4(9)T2 with either Adv. Security or Adv. IP Services Feature Set.

Let us know,

Rob

Thanks again Rob, I did actually look that that snippet when you first posted it. I just figured that the IOS I downloaded was close enough to good to work, but I guess I needed the 12.4t version. Once I got that on the routers and working, it fixed my no Dot interface issues. Thanks for the support.
