2504WLC with Aironet3702i Configuration issue

I'm brand new to wireless lan controllers, and I'm having an issue that I just can't quite figure out.  The AP is finding the WLC and doing what it's supposed to do, however, when a device connects to the 5GHZ band, there are issues.  The device is unable to connect to the web, has issues finding other devices on the network, and browsing just does not work.  I am able to ping public IP addresses when connected to the 5GHZ band, but can't pull up anything using Comcast's DNS.  When a device is using the 2.4GHZ band, there are no issues.  I've attached my configuration as a text file.

Why would the issue only affect the 5GHZ radio and not the 2.4GHZ?

You still haven't responded as to the status to the wireless NIC drivers.  Are they updated?

Full strength, I'm about 9 feet away from it.  Continuous ping shows no issues, aside from varying response times.

This rules out wireless.

1.  Use either TKIP or AES.  Don't enable both.

2.  Make sure your wireless client's wireless NIC driver is updated.  Go the the wireless NIC manufacturer's website for updated drivers (avoid going to the laptop's manufacturer's website)

2504WLC with Aironet3702i Configuration issue

Okay, I went back to using only AES, and I'm still having the same issue.  For instance, I can ping a public IP such as 8.8.8.8, but I cannot ping google.com .  When I go to ping my router (a 2901), it will time out for the first 6 or 7 tries, and then it starts pinging.

Re: 2504WLC with Aironet3702i Configuration issue

That sounds like a routing issue.

I presume the Default Gateway of the WLC Management port is the router or Comcast router?

New Member

Yes, the default gateway is the router.  Why would the issue only affect the 5GHZ radio and not the 2.4GHZ?

What is the signal strength of the wireless client when connected on the 5 Ghz radio?

What happens if you have a continuous ping from the wireless client to the default-gateway?

Sorry, yes, all the NIC drivers are updated.  I wasn't having an issue when I was running the AP in autonomous mode.  I have a backup AP (an aironet 1042i) running in autonomous mode with no issues.

I am a massive idiot.  I had the switch port the WLC is connected to configured on a VLAN trunked with another port.  I removed the settings in question and everything's fine.

It was a configuration issue on the port on my Catalyst switch that was causing the issue.  You were totally right, it had nothing to do with wireless.
