2600 IOS conversion issues

Hello,

For the past couple hours I've been trying to convert an AIR-CAP2602I-A-K9 and have hit a brick wall due to some networking issues with the MODE button method.

For some reason when the mode button is held down, the AP's IP interface is non responsive.  It self-assigns 10.0.0.1 and I can't ping it from my laptop (10.0.0.4).  However, when I run a DHCP server on my laptop and let the AP boot with it's CAPWAP image, the two can talk to each other.

I've tried the following method to download IOS code to the AP but keep getting interrupted by the controller discovery process.

#archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://10.0.0.4/ap3g2-k9w7-tar.tar

I watch files download and extract but can't seem to get it completed before the AP times out discovering a controller and reset's its ip.

*Mar  1 00:22:02.431: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.

I'm really struggling here and don't have a controller.  If I did I would try the tftp downgrade commands from a controller.

I've successfully downgraded lots of 1260 series and 3500 series but this AP seems to have a new issue with the MODE button..

Re: 2600 IOS conversion issues

You can also do it manually

In config mode

Debug capwap console cli
Debug capwap cli no reload

From here you can assign an address to the G0 Interface then

Archive download-software /f /o tftp://

Re: 2600 IOS conversion issues

Hi Greg,

You can configure your TFTP/PC as gateway address for the LAP as shown below & then it should work.

LAP#debug capwap console cli

LAP#capwap ap ip address 10.10.10.102 255.255.255.0

LAP#capwap ap ip default-gateway 10.10.10.1 (your PC/TFTP IP address)

Refer this for detail

Mode button option also should work. As long as your PC directly connected to the AP & AP ip address(10.0.0.1) configured as gateway for the PC things should work (even without that as well it should work as it use broadcast method). Link below give step by step process for that, give it another try & see

Re: 2600 IOS conversion issues

Thanks Guys,

I think I was missing the "debug capwap cli no reload" command.  After that I didnt have any of the DHCP reset messages and was able to tftp the code to the AP via "archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://" without the interface resetting and tearing down the session.

Thanks for your response Rasika - unfortunately it seemed there was something buggy going on with the way the L2+3 wired interface when booted with the mode button held down.  No ARP entries for the IP it set to itself, no response to ping - didnt change anything physical or config wise on PC and reloaded the AP in CAPWAP mode, L3 worked enough to let me TFTP new code over.

Cheers,

Greg
